AI HISTORY : The BIRTH of Artificial Intelligence
Founded in the year of 1956, at a workshop held on the campus of Dartmouth College, Artificial Intelligence became an academic discipline due to the combined efforts of a handful of scientists including John Mcarthy, Marvin Minsky, Nathaniel Rochester, and Claude Shannon. This group of avant-garde men coined the term and initiated the first discussion on the possibility of creating an artificial brain. This early research in the field of Artificial Intelligence was focused on exploring areas like problem-solving and symbolic methods. Weak AI/Narrow AI
Weak or Narrow AI refers to computers/machines/systems that are focused on one narrow task, which they are trained/programmed to perform. Currently, the AI-powered intelligent machines we are most familiar with are mainly Narrow. For example, Apple’s Siri, NVIDIA Self Driving Car, IBM’s Watson are all Narrow or Weak AI.
Strong AI/Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Strong or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the holy grail of AI, as it has the capability to learn, solve, and perform any task that it is presented, without any human intervention.
SuperIntelligence
This is the third level of AI, which is the future potential creation of AGI. Superintelligence will be a result of recursive self-improvement, which is considered to be a major global catastrophic risk by the intellectuals of our time, as it will be surpassing the brightest of human minds.
